Upstash Skills are packaged instructions and resources that extend your agent's capabilities across every Upstash SDK: Redis, QStash, Workflow, Vector, Search, Ratelimit, and Upstash Box.
Find the GitHub repository here.
The upstash skill also includes the @upstash/cli reference, so one install is all your agent needs.
Available skills#
| Skill | Description |
|---|---|
| upstash | Combined skill covering all Upstash SDKs and the upstash CLI. |
| upstash-box-js | Sandboxed cloud containers with AI agents, shell, filesystem, and git. |
| upstash-box-py | The same sandboxed cloud containers, from the Python SDK. |
| upstash-cli | Drive the Upstash Developer API from the terminal with the upstash CLI. |
| upstash-qstash-js | Serverless messaging and scheduling via HTTP endpoints. |
| upstash-ratelimit-js | Rate limiting with the Redis Rate Limit TypeScript SDK. |
| upstash-redis-js | Serverless Redis for caching, sessions, leaderboards, full-text search. |
| upstash-redis-start | Provision a zero-config, no-signup scratch Redis database for an agent. |
| upstash-search-js | Full-text search quick starts, core concepts, and TypeScript SDK. |
| upstash-vector-js | Vector database features, SDK usage, and framework integrations. |
| upstash-workflow-js | Durable workflows. Define, trigger, and manage multi-step processes. |
Install the combined upstash skill unless you only need a single SDK.
The combined upstash skill does not bloat your agent's context. Its top-level SKILL.md only contains references to the underlying per-SDK skill files, so the agent loads just the sections relevant to the task at hand.
Example prompts#
- "Set up Upstash Redis in my Next.js app for session caching"
- "Create a QStash schedule that calls
/api/daily-reportevery morning at 9am UTC" - "Add rate limiting to my
/api/loginroute, 5 attempts per minute per IP" - "Build a workflow that fans out to 10 parallel steps and waits for all of them"
- "Index these product docs into Upstash Vector and wire up semantic search"
- "Create a new Redis database named
prod-cacheinus-east-1using the CLI" - "List all my Upstash databases and print their monthly costs"
Installation#
The upstash/skills repo is an Agent Skills repo, a Claude Code plugin, a Cursor plugin, an OpenAI Codex plugin, and a DeepSeek Harness bundle, so you can install it with whichever mechanism your agent supports.
Any agent#
The Agent Skills CLI detects the agents on your machine and installs into all of them:
To install only a specific SDK skill, pass its name with --skill:
Add --global (-g) to make the skills available in every project instead of just the current one, and --agent (-a) to target a specific agent.
Per agent#
Claude Code
Install as a plugin from inside Claude Code. See the Claude Code plugin docs for more info.
Cursor
The plugin is pending review for the official Cursor Marketplace. Once listed, install it from Customize in the Cursor sidebar. Until then, use the Agent Skills CLI:
OpenAI Codex
Install as a plugin with the Codex CLI. See the Codex plugin docs for more info.
OpenCode
OpenCode loads Agent Skills from .agents/skills/ in a project and ~/.config/opencode/skills/ globally, which is where the Agent Skills CLI writes them for OpenCode:
OpenCode exposes the installed skills to the agent through its native skill tool, so only the sub-skill relevant to the task is loaded. For live access to your account, also add the MCP server.
Zed
Zed loads Agent Skills from .agents/skills/ in a project and ~/.agents/skills/ globally, which is where the Agent Skills CLI writes them for Zed:
The skills show up in Zed's Agent Panel, and the agent can load them on its own or via /upstash. Zed's extension marketplace has no channel for skills, so the CLI is the only way to install them; the Zed extension covers the MCP server instead.
Context7 CLI
DeepSeek Harness
Installs the skills and the MCP server in one step. Requires pnpm on your PATH.
Then store your Upstash credentials from inside a session so the MCP server can connect. The skills work without them.
Managing resources#
The combined upstash skill includes the full @upstash/cli command reference, so your agent can create databases, publish QStash messages, query Vector indexes, and more straight from the shell. See the CLI page for credentials and command details.
